I sighed and kicked a rock as I walked down the boardwalk along the beach. My hands stuffed into the warm pockets of my coat. I looked around the beach, it was deserted, because a storm was coming in, I was the only one stupid enough to be walking near the ocean apparently. I sighed and tugged my ipod out of my pocket, putting an earphone in my ear and turning it on, I played Made To Love by Tobymac, and smiled, mouthing the words as they were sung.

I sighed as I walked out of my loft, out into the streets. Stray leaves skimmed across the streets and sidewalks. A couple of people were spotted around the area, with their faces tucked down tightly into the collars of their coats. Personally, I wasn't that cold... But then again I wasn't normally bothered by coldness.
I flipped the hood of my hoodie up over my head, and began walking down the chipped sidewalk, toward the beach. Enough thoughts were going through my mind that I really paid little attention to what was going on around me, and kept my gaze focused on my feet.

(Sorry I left dad was on the phone for what seemed like hours!! lol)

I picked a spot under a small tree and flopped down. I inhaled the fresh salt air and smiled. The beach was so peaceful. I hummed along to the song and closed my eyes leaning my head back. Memories and thoughts clouded my head leaving me in the middle to think and reminisce. I sat there silently, the only thing I heard was the music, and the sound of crashing waves. The wind picked up but I didn't care, I was bundled up nicely enough.

I kept walking, my sights set downward until I saw the sand beneath my feet. Finally, I lifted my head and looked over the crashing waves. It was clear by the pattern and dark hue of the clouds.. a storm was rolling in.
I deeply inhaled the smell of the salty, cold water and the tangy smell of the sand. I began walking again, now through the sand, and I scanned over the beach. It was completely empty... except for one girl sitting down underneath a tree. By the looks of it, she was pretty into her iPod.
With a sigh, I kept walking and passed by her. My squinting eyes seemed to glaze over as I faced the beach. I didn't know why, really... But I wondered what on earth I was doing with my life. Sure, I was out of High school. And College was gone with the wind... But the thoughts of everything else that was to come flooded my already-stressed mind.

I heard footsteps. I casually removed the earphone from my ear and looked up. A young man, about I dunno 20..21..22? Walked past me. He seemed troubled by the look in his eyes. I was good at telling what people were feeling most of the time. I tilted my head and shifted a little. Sand was getting in my uggs. I sighed, sand was so annoying when it was in your shoes. I removed one of my shoes and dumped out the little bit of sand then put my shoe back on. I watched the young man again and my eyes glazed over as I wondered what he was thinking about. Yes I did some of the wierdist things.. Trying to think what a complete stranger was thinking... Wonderful.

I bit my bottom lip and casually stopped walking. Without even taking a quick glance at the ground, I dropped down so that I was sitting on the sand. I pulled my right leg up pretty close to my chest, and rest my right arm on it. My other arm was simply as my side, and my other leg was stretched outward. I just hoped that the tide wouldn't come up a few feet higher... because I would be soaked.

I watched him silently. I shrugged and stood up, walking towards him. What did I have to lose?! I walked up and flopped down beside him. "Heyl." I said with a friendly smile on my face. I was just being friendly, not trying to flirt or anything, I didn't flirt.. It wasn't in me. I was more of the sarcastic, teasing type. "I'm Crystal." I looked up at him waiting for a response. I didn't want him to think I was some sort of weirdo who introduced herself to anyone, and everyone.. But then he wouldn't know me. The truth is, I did randomly introduce myself to people. I liked meeting new people, and talking, and learning about them, making them laugh, and smile. I don't know why.. I just did.

I hadn't realized how tense I was making myself in thinking of everything until a girl approached me, and sat next to me. I barely even noticed her presence until she spoke. Without even meaning to, I shortly screamed and kicked myself about a foot away from her.

I never felt stupider in my entire life. At least not that I can remember.


"I, uh.." I staggered, pulling my now-messy hair out of my face. "I'm so sorry, I was just.. deep in thought." I said apologetically. To say the least.. I finished in my head. I didn't think I kicked any sand on her... though I easily could have been mistaken.
"I'm Zac," I replied to her introduction.. trying to forget that had even happened.

I couldn't help it... I had to smile. "Don't worry about it," I laughed subtly. "It's nice to meet you, too.." I added, putting out my hand to shake her's. [Short. :P]

I withdrew my hand after shaking hands with him and smiled. "Soooo.. What brings you to the beach on this fine day." I laughed at the end of that. It wasn't really a fine day, it was more of a stormy cloudy, dark, cold day. I looked over at him.

I laughed a little louder than before at her statement on the 'fine day'. "A lot of things.." I exhaled. "But stress, mostly.. I suppose. I find the beach an exceptionally fine place to think." I answered. "And yourself?"

"Ahh....." I said nodding understandingly. "Me.. Oh.. I don't know, usually when I go out on my afternoon walks I find myself at the beach." I smiled. Leaning back on my shoulder and looking up at the darkening sky. I closed my eyes for a second and in that second, a small raindrop fell from the sky and landed on my cheek. My eyes flew open. "Uh oh.. Looks like the rains coming!" I said informing him, just in case he wanted to get out of the rain. I didn't mind the rain, usually I liked to sit in the rain. That after wards brought on a cold, and I had to stay in side, which I hated. So I decided I wouldn't stay out too long this time.

I nodded agreeing as she spoke.
"Yikes." I replied to her informing me about the rain. With a quiet groan, I came to my feet and then offered her a hand to help her up. I urged to ask her if she wanted to hang out in a shelter, or at a starbucks.. but I couldn't bring myself to it.

I smiled and took his hand, pulling myself up off the ground. "Thanks." I said politely, then brushed off the excess sand that clung to my jeans. I looked around for shelter, I was a good ways away from my apartment. Hmmm. AHA! Starbucks to the rescue! I saw it on the main highway not far.

I pulled my hand back to my side once again. "So, Crystal." I half-smiled. "You want to head to Starbucks, on me?" I asked as politely as I could. I tucked my hand halfway in my pocket, and glanced up to the sky. I felt a drop of rain fall down onto my forehead.

(I figured I'd leave it up to the guy to ask.. lolz)

"Are you a mind reader or something?! I was just thinking about that" I laughed gently. Then nodded. "Yes, I'd like that, Thank you." I said smiling, and looking down a little shyly. I looked at my now sand covered uggs. I must remind myself not to wear uggs to the beach again.

"Not quite," I laughed. "C'mon.." I offered her and tucked both of my hands into my hoodie pockets. I began walking up the beach, and looked over my shoulder to make sure Crystal was following.

I followed him automatically, snuggling into my cozy jacket. I wondered how old he was.. He didn't look old. Nor too young, he looked around his early twenties. I pursed my lips as I though, automatically bringing my left hand up to my face, and bit at my pinkie finger, it was a bad habit of mine. I then glanced at Zac, okay, biting your nails was not attractive. I immediately, but reluctantly let my hand drop to my side.

I couldn't help but yawn gently as I walked. "So..." I made an attempt at starting conversation. "Have you always lived in Boston?" I glanced back at her with a warm smile. I then slowed down a little bit and walked at her pace so that I was beside her. The smell of rain became stronger as we moved further away from the beach, and the rain dropped down a little harder.

I was lost in thought with my mace tilted towards the sky, as small drops of rain gently fell. I smiled at the cool feeling. Then a voice interrupted me and I was dragged back to reality, which wasn't that bad at this moment, may I add. I smiled and shrugged. "Not really.. I just moved here like, what...3 months ago. But I've manged to settle in and what not." I said. "What about you?"

I listened to her talk, and nodded a little bit. "No kidding!" I said in a generally louder voice than I was speaking in before. "I moved here... maybe two months ago. If even. Just graduated from Roanoke Chowan College, in North Carolina."
